You’ve heard about world records for the largest number of hotdogs eaten in one sitting or the biggest baby, but have you ever heard of a world record for the largest claw game? We hadn’t either until we found out from Autoblog that Chevrolet has set such a record in the latest chapter of their Chevy Sonic-inspired “Let’s Do This” campaign. So what’s the world’s largest claw game have to do with the new Chevy Sonic? Check out the video above to see!
Chevrolet’s “Let’s Do This” campaign is a publicity crusade to announce the ‘12 Chevy Sonic in a big way. Intertwined in social media, the campaign is all about living to the fullest and accomplishing firsts in your life. With this fresh new campaign idea, Chevrolet encourages people, particularly younger generations, to participate in unique challenges and share their experiences with others through LetsDoThis.com.
For every challenge participants complete, they earn points and virtual rewards, and also have the chance of scoring a real Chevy Sonic. To go along with the challenges that Chevy has come up with, the “Let’s Do This” campaign is also about completing firsts with the Sonic.
To start the campaign off, Chevrolet sent the Sonic parachuting in Arizona and then bungee jumping in California. As we told you in December, Chevrolet then sent the Sonic to Six Flags California where skateboard legend and MTV star Rob Dyrdek completed a kick flip in the car over the world’s largest skateboard.
Chevrolet’s latest Sonic stunt was no less impressive. Inspired by the game many of us played as a child, Chevrolet projected a five-story tall, 3D claw game on the side of the Roosevelt Hotel in Hollywood, California in conjunction with the Sonic’s kick flip debut. The stunt was so big that some traffic lanes on Sunset Boulevard were shut down to accommodate the gigantic gear shift controller and gas pedal used to control the claw’s movements.
Although projected, the Chevy Sonic claw game produced real prizes. Some lucky individuals who got their shot at the game won things like concert cash, a camera and a snowboard. But that wasn’t all the game offered. One lucky guy actually won a Chevy Sonic when he picked up the virtual car five stories high and dropped it into the prize shoot.
Chevrolet’s “Lets Do This” campaign is gaining a lot of attention not only from potential Chevrolet customers but also from the Guinness Book of World Records. This latest stunt by Chevrolet has earned them a position in the world record book for the largest interactive claw game in the world. That’s not a bad way to promote your brand or new car in our opinion.
The “Lets Do This” campaign is set to run through March 14th of this year, so there is still plenty of time left to get in on the action over at LetsDoThis.com. This also means there is still plenty of time for Chevrolet to pull off more Sonic stunts and we can’t wait to see where the new model ends up next.
