Wet weather definitely didnβt deter the participants of the first Run to the Alamo event put on by the American Street Car Series (ASCS) the weekend of February 17th. Among the participants of the ASCS kick-off event was the Detroit Speed Engineering (DSE) team and their ’66 Mustang, ’69 Camaro and ’70 Camaro test cars. With a rain slicked track, owners of DSE, Kyle and Stacy Tucker, along with crew member Ryan Mathews, ended up taking three of the top ten places at the Texas event. Congratulations goes out to them for their winning positions.
The Run to the Alamo event took place February 17th through the 19th at the Harris Hill Road Raceway in San Marcos, Texas. Although the weather was unusually cold and rainy, the event went on with drivers participating in a cruise, scavenger hunt, tour of Vintage Air and a full day of autocross racing.
After driving DSEβs β66 Mustang Test Car 1,200 miles from North Carolina to Texas, Mathews participated in the events and raced flawlessly, taking third place overall at the event. The Mustang also picked up the βLong Distanceβ award for its lengthy drive to the event.
Kyle Tucker also performed very well at the Run to the Alamo event, finishing second overall with the DSE β69 Camaro Test Car. In the same test car, Stacy Tucker dominated the race course, finishing seventh overall.
In addition to the DSE test cars that made it out to the event, several DSE-equipped vehicles participated with their owners and placed quite well. Among them was Tom Farrington and his β66 Chevelle, Mike Yale and his β70 Camaro, Billy Utley and his β72 Nova, and Terry Neuville and hisβ68 Camaro.
The Run to the Alamo was a DSE contingency eligible event and Yale placed first with a course time of 1 minute and 53. 3 seconds. He was followed by fellow DSE customers Farrington at 1:57.5, Neuville at 1:57.6, and Utley at 2:13.0.
Congratulations goes out to DSE, as well as many of their customers for competing so well at the Run to the Alamo event. We look forward to seeing how everyone does at the American Street Car Series Run to the Coast March 9th through the 11th in El Toro, California.
