We’ve recently reported on the skyrocketing values and costs seen at auctions for collector cars all over country, and for that matter, the world. For the young custom car or hot rod enthusiast just getting started it can be especially frustrating as the purchase point to enter the hobby seems exorbitant. In another recent feature we discussed what may be the classic collector vehicles of the future to look for and buy now, so that entry fee into the party may not hurt so much. But still, if you are looking to buy something considered a classic by today’s standards, you may have to hand over you entire wallet, not just a piece of it.
However, aside from vintage auto parts stickers to temporarily curb your enthusiasm for a collector car or building that custom car, hot rod or trick truck that could strain your finances as well as personal relationships, there is another way to feed the beast. Through Petrolicious.com we found that there are dozens, if not hundreds of vintage car parts, accessory, event and automobile manufacturer posters and advertisements available from a multitude of sources through the Internet. These range from spark plugs to tires to oil to cars and just about everything in between.
Our favorite is digitalpostercollection.com where you will not only find digital copies of posters covering topics ranging from the automotive subjects already mentioned, but in addition the site offers posters of aircraft, beer brands, tractors, trains, war propaganda, baseball and tourism.
Among our favorites, of course, are the automotive subjects, and those include some of the vintage AC spark plug ads, a splendid ’35 Chevrolet Roadster ad, and a thrilling Firestone Tire ad with the punchy line, “If You’ve Got The Gearbox To Dish It Out… We’ve Got A 125-M.P.H. Tire To Take It.” These are the kind of posters we would print out on top-quality paper, frame and hang in the garage. Now wouldn’t that nice!
