Equipped with the new Ecotec3 6.2-liter V8, the 2015 Yukon Denali comes loaded with potential. Especially when expert tuners get their hands on one…
Hennessey Performance recently tested their HPE650 package on the new Yukon and yielded some awesome results. The SUV gets up to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds and the quarter mile is achieved in 13.1 seconds at 110 MPH – not bad at all for a heavy SUV!
Hennessey’s HPE650 package for the Yukon Denali includes a 2.9-liter supercharger that takes place of the factory intake manifold, high-flow cylinder heads, high-flow intercooler, HPE custom camshaft, and proper engine management calibration. The result is a stout 665 horsepower at 5,500 RPM and 658 pound-feet of torque at 4,200 RPM. The kit also comes with all of the proper gaskets, serial-numbered plaques, embroidered headrests, and a 3-year 36,000-mile warranty.
When John Hennessey takes it down the drag strip in the video, even he is surprised with the performance of the heavy SUV. “That’s impressive,” said Hennessey after he completed a pass. The sound of the Yukon is refreshing as well – it’s nice and throaty, just how a big 6.2-liter V8 should sound. Another aspect of the video we thought was pretty cool was how hard the SUV squats upon takeoff.
This video shows us the performance potential of the new Ecotec3 engine and also that a big SUV is really capable of putting the horsepower to the ground. We can’t wait to see more progress on the Ecotec3 engines in these trucks, especially with the 8-speed transmission that is now being offered as part of a mid-model-year update.
