Cars, like people, have stories to tell. Two cars could leave the assembly line at the same time 50 years ago and were they to spring to autonomous life and begin recounting their tale, we could find their histories as interesting and complex as any human biography. One such car with an equally storied history appeared at Bonneville this past August which caught the eye of everyone – including the crew at Speedhunters.

Amid the multimillion dollar slippery salt machines stood this faded red ’57 Chevrolet delivery wagon. Not quite a Nomad, the two-door panel wagon was noticeably a seasoned pro, having seen more in its half decade than so many of the drivers there on the salt.

Although nowhere near the performer of the other street machines, rods, and rocket-propelled land rockets present, this wagon had something to share.

The big giveaway of this 57’s life’s story was written on its back window, a virtual kaleidoscope of vintage drag strip decals. Most notably heralding its time spent on so many of Southern California’s forgotten drag strips including Irwindale Raceway (not to be confused with the 1/8th mile Irwindale Speedway) and the ever famous Lion’s.

The delivery’s current owner was on-hand as part of a race team competing at Bonneville Speed Week 2010, using the ’57 as a support vehicle. As Speedhunters talked up the owner, he refered to it as the “Bromad.” Indeed…
