We all dream of one day driving that muscle car of our dreams, for some Chevy enthusiasts it doesn’t get much better than the ’66 Chevelle 396 SS Convertible. Although 72,272 Chevelle SS’ were produced in 1966, only 5,429 were convertibles. So unfortunately this means, we may never have the chance to take this rare car for a drive.
However, it doesn’t mean we can’t drool at the experience of watching someone else test drive it. AutomotiveMediaGroup recently test drove one of these rare machines from Midwest Auto Collection, and luckily for us they posted the video on their YouTube account. “What a cruiser… It’s really a very easy car to drive, I can’t emphasize that enough, a lot of these cars are finicky. This just feels really good.”
The ’66 Chevelle Convertible in the video features a 396 big-block 325hp, Turbo 400 automatic transmission (upgraded from the Powerglide), 12-bolt rear end, and numerous other features. The Chevelle went through a body on restoration 15 years ago and you can tell from the video the owners did a fantastic job during the restoration. Now for the good news, this particular ’66 convertible is up for sale through Midwest Auto Collection. You can visit their website by logging on to MidwestAutoCollection.com
