Smokey Yunick is synonymous for speed, especially in NASCAR. He was a true visionary, that really knew his way around a car. The ’57 seen here isn’t being advertised as the actual car Yunick built, but its a damn good looking replica brought to us by BringATrailer.com.
To start, the iconic gold and black is adorned on this car, like most of Yunick’s cars. The side glass has been stripped and the doors are welded shut, giving the car more of a race car vibe. The car was converted back to street legal, even though the seller claims that it wouldn’t make for a very good daily driver in its current condition.
Under the hood you’ll find a 355 small-block Chevy, but little other details are listed. This SBC is backed by a four speed Borg Warner transmission that connects power to a welded locker rearend. The welded locker rearend would be a bit of a bear on the streets, but could be done.
The seller warns that with some work, it could be a cruiser. However, he says that this isn’t going to be a car that will be stripped of racing equipment and put back into street fashion as most of the factory metal has been removed. Even the inner door structures have been gutted for weight savings and to allow room for the roll cage.
The bidding started at $7800 on eBay, and the car sold for only $12,400. We understand this isn’t a car for everybody, but it is a really awesome Smokey Yunick tribute, and a 1957 210 sedan. That’s a really cool car in our book, that we wish was in our garage.
