Have you ever heard the saying “fake it till you make it?” Gear heads have been “faking” cars for years in the form of clones. Usually done because the original car is just too expensive or hard to come by, car clones can be an easier way to own your dream car without breaking the bank. Recently, a car meant to mimic a performance muscle car was listed on eBay; a ‘71 Chevelle SS clone. While this car isn’t the true high-performance car, it sure is a beauty and will still put some power to the pavement.
The SS clone is a double black, turn-key car. It is equipped with a Chevy 350 engine that has been bored out to 385ci. It has a four-bolt main, high-flow oil pump, Edelbrock performance intake manifold, Hedman headers and a Flowmaster exhaust.
The SS also has power steering and brakes. The four-speed, automatic B&M 700R4 transmission has a lock up kit and a 2000-stall converter. After the engine and transmission were installed, only about 6,000 miles were put on the car.
Several new parts have been fitted on the car recently, including a new windshield, chrome bumpers, shocks, radiator and Crager wheels. A new bench seat, carpet and radio have spruced up the interior of the car.
With all the new parts, this car is definitely a restored pr-touring classic. Unfortunately, it has a few body and paint flaws. Rust has started in the truck of the car. Although the SS was painted only two years ago, bubbling on the rear fenders, window and trunk lid can be seen. This eBay posting is very upfront and even shows pictures of the flawed areas.
Although this eBay lot expired on May 26th, the seller has relisted this Chevelle SS clone until June 3rd. In the initial auction, 19 bids were made with the high-bid of $7,600 not meeting the reserve price. After 28 bids on May 29th, the reserve on the new auction had been satisfied at $8,000. If you’re interested in bidding on this car, you still have some time. If not, someone might just get this beautiful turn-key classic for less than 10 grand.
