Building a car is a labor of love but if you just don’t have the time to build one of your own, eBay Motors has plenty of impressive cars to bid on, including a 1968 pro-touring Camaro “super rod” we recently found. While this car is no longer listed on the mass auction site, the superior quality and horsepower of this build is sure to get plenty of attention if opened up for bidding again in the future.
The pro-touring movement is becoming more and more popular in the automotive community these days, but rarely do we see a pro-touring car built to the extent of this 1968 Camaro. With a full frame-off, no expense spared restoration, this classic Camaro started out like many full build projects, but what resulted is a car built to tear down the competition in more ways than one.
Originally a California 396 SS car, this Camaro has been torn down and rebuilt twice, most recently in 2008 by Classic Performance in Calgary, Alabama. But rather than keeping the car true to it’s roots, the latest build went above and beyond to make this classic muscle car a pro-touring beast.
Taming the potent big block is a TKO 600 Keisler 5-speed transmission with a hydraulic clutch, which pushes the Camaro’s massive power numbers to 18×8 and 20×12-inch Billet Specialties Dyno SL wheels via a complete Detroit Speed Engineering suspension with a Quadralink rear and a hydroformed front subframe, as well as a Mark Williams aluminum modular rearend with Ford Motorsports Posi-traction and 3.73 gears. This setup is backed by Baer’s GT Plus disc brakes for plenty of stopping power.
Needing the aesthetics to match the Camaro’s potent mechanics, the car was finished in a vintage Butternut Yellow paint scheme with factory black vinyl roof. But don’t take this classic paint scheme to be too tame for such a car as the exterior also features pearl ghost flames and stacks shooting out the hood.
This pro-touring Camaro is quite the car and with just 3,900 miles on it, it would make a fantastic vehicle for anyone looking for a great show piece that can also be used and abused on the track. Complete with full restoration documentation and show winning titles, the car was listed on eBay for a whopping $130,000. While no one took it home at that price, we’re sure we’ll see the car back up for bid in the near future.
