This “barn find” is our Friday Find of the week and comes to us from Hemmings, The World’s Largest Collector Car Marketplace. Just about all the information available on its Website is that this 1963 Chevy Impala is a red and white two-door hardtop (obviously by the photos), was running when parked (God only knows when that was, but judging by the growth of the grass around it, that must have been quite some time ago), has new carpet in a box (somewhere), is equipped with factory air conditioning, and needs a hood (really?).
There is no further information as to the engine, but engine choices were similar to the ’62 vintage, with the small-block 283 ci and 327 ci V-8s the most popular choices. However, if you’re lucky, this one could have the 427 ci V-8 under that rust-spotted hood. Among collectors, the 1963 Impala is the most popular because of its body style, even though aside from a few updates, it was practically identical to the ’62 model.
The ’63 Impala’s distinctive body style had crisp lines with pointed front and rear fenders emphasizing its long, low style of the day. The rear taillight panel was aluminum, surrounded by a border of chrome trim. The Sport Sedan had a creased roof line that was new and became popular. A new “coved” instrument panel looked cool, but unfortunately for enthusiasts, replaced the temperature gauge with “idiot lights” to indicate engine coolant temp. You could also get a factory tachometer built into the dash as an option.
