Muscle Car Masters is a two-day festival of speed in our favorite place – the Land Down Under. Aussies do things big, all the time, as you’ve no doubt witnessed through the many videos we’ve exposed you to, like this massive burnout. This gathering features some of the coolest in Australian and overseas hot rods, held at Sydney Motorsports Park in Eastern Creek, New South Wales – about 40 kilometers from Sydney proper.
Being close to one of the country’s most populous city means that SMP draws all sorts of folks in to compete on their legendary course. During the Muscle Car Masters show there are two days of qualifying and retro racing, along with a car show and meet-n-greet with some of Australia’s legendary drivers.
Accidents in racing are sometimes avoidable, sometimes not, but always costly. What appears to be a tough battle between a pair of Parnelli Jones-style old-school Mustangs quickly devolves into a difficult situation.
The trailing car appears to have some sort of mechanical failure that sends it into a spin exiting a corner, and the driver of the Mustang involved in the initial spin out never really seems to get off the throttle after ending up in the lawn. This leads us to wonder if there was a stuck-throttle situation that caused him to re-enter the racing surface without waiting for his competition to pass him by.
Alternatively, it could be an issue of an inexperienced driver who let adrenaline get in the way of clear thinking and was simply trying to remain in his place in the pack. Regardless of the reason, two Camaros and a Mustang had to spend some time in the body shop getting some love. We’d be willing to bet that the driver’s bruised ego did not undergo such quick repairs.
