While many of us wouldn’t classify a ‘57 Chevy as a potent track machine, we’ve got the video which proves otherwise. That’s a good thing, too, considering Andrew Chessells of Australia recently proved just how potent a classic Chevy can be with the right build. Chessels ’57 Chevy runs an amaing 9-second quarter mile at the Australia Pro Street Association (APSA) Shootout in mid February. Have you ever seen a classic Chevy run that fast? Well, take a look at the YouTube video above to watch Chessells and his ‘57 make magic.

Held at the Calder Park Raceway in Keilor Victoria, Australia on February 18^th , the APSA Shootout pinned some of the fastest street and drag cars against one another in heads-up drag racing competition. Competing along side Tim Perry and his Holden Commodore SS Ute was Chessells and his ‘57 Chevy.

Powered by a nitrous-wielding, Hallam Performance-built small-block, the classic Chevy proved to be a fierce competitor.

Over the course of the day-long event, Chessells drove his car to consistent mid 9-second quarter miles, hitting the traps at 140+mph. As you can see from the video above, as night fell, the Chevy ran a 9.499-second quarter mile, crossing the speed traps at 143.9mph.
