Converting Your 1968-’72 Chevy Truck to EFI: Tanks Inc. Has Options

It’s great to know that a ready-made fuel tank is available to update almost any car or truck to electronic fuel injection. But, many 1968-’72 Chevy truck enthusiasts are looking for other ways to set their rides apart from all the others on the show field. Thankfully, Tanks Inc. has options. Realizing not all builds are the same, the company is now offering owners of 1968-’72 Chevy trucks more options when ordering a new fuel tank for their ride. Customers can now choose whether they want to fill their truck’s tank from inside the bed or from the outside.

An angled tube allows for filling from the outside of the bed while either a hose or stubby tube with a threaded cap allows for varying in-bed fill options.

Tanks Inc. has been in business for over 30 years and offers a variety of polyethylene, stainless steel, mild steel, and alloy-coated steel gas tanks for street rods, muscle cars, and classic trucks. Each EFI-ready, 1968-’72 Chevy truck fuel tank is built from die-stamped galvanized steel, which is then powder-coated silver. Each tank utilizes a GPA-series fuel pump module, which is available with a 109 to 450 liters-per-hour flow rating. There is also internal baffling with a dual-tube, baffled, inner fuel tray to prevent fuel pump starvation during spirited driving.

Each tank uses a standard 5-bolt sending unit that is available in multiple ohm ranges for either aftermarket or OEM gauges. The tank is designed to mount to the bottom side of 1968-’72 Chevy truck frames, but allows for mounting in different configurations. The holes need to be located and drilled upon installation and mounting hardware is not included.

The tank is designed to bolt to the bottom side of the frame, so bed removal is not necessary. The tank measures 32-1/4" x 20-1/2" x 9-3/4" (including the mounting flange), and from the bottom of the tank to the mounting flange measures 6.86 inches.

These tanks for 1968-’72 Chevy trucks hold 18 gallons. Each tank utilizes a bolt-on filler neck. The side-fill tank is available with a 2-inch OD, 70-degree tube; the bed-fill tank is available with either a 2-inch-tall neck and threaded aluminum cap, or with a stub neck and fuel hose for more installation options.
