The sleeper is a time-honored tradition for street racers – take the most unassuming vehicle you can find, stick a whopper of an engine inside (often pumped up by a massive turbocharger) and proceed to leave everyone that challenges you wondering what the heck just happened.
This particular sleeper is a longbed Chevrolet Silverado pickup adorned in a stealthy flat-black paint scheme – the better to keep the police unsuspecting of its capabilities – that’s capable of running nine-second elapsed times thanks to the 408 cubic inch stroker engine and 83mm turbocharger underhood pushing 19 pounds of boost.
The owner states that he drives it daily, cruising it to the gym and local car meets, and says that it’s capable of doing so on a regular basis, but remains tight-lipped about any potential illegal activities.
The truck has a nice smooth idle and gives no indication to what’s underhood until the turbo spools up and the truck just hooks and goes. No nitrous purging, no drama, no wheels dangling off the ground at launch – and no clue that it’s going to light up the scoreboard with near 140 MPH trap speed and single-digit ET’s.
Would you sport this bad boy at your local cruise night? It would be near the top on our list of rides to have in the garage. Just imagine that tricked out Mustang or Camaro rolling up next to you, giving the nod, then watching the driver’s expression in the rearview as you leave him in the dust. Yup… we’d definitely have to have one of these in a perfect world.
Thanks to High Tech Corvette for the video.
