As Chevrolet approaches its 100th Anniversary, a significant part of that event lies in recognizing the heritage that helped build it. A good portion of that is stored at the GM Heritage Center, an 81,000 square foot building in Sterling Heights, MI.

With about 200 vehicles on display at any given time, while an on-site archive houses 15,000 feet of shelving containing significant documents, manuals, brochures, and artifacts documenting GM’s history of innovation.

The GM Heritage Center Vehicle Collection actually comprises some 600 cars and trucks. Many reflect GM’s innovations, such as the first electric starter, used on the 1912 Cadillac. Additionally, concept cars and special-interest vehicles are part of the mix, along with significant racing cars and milestone production vehicles.

Although the Heritage Center is not open to drop-in visitors, the facility can be reserved for group tours, conferences or meetings. Greg Wallace is manager of the GM Heritage Center and took some time to talk about his selection of the Top Five cars in GM history. No surprise here… they’re all Chevys!

With all those historic and significant cars close at hand, it must have been pretty tough to pick out just five. Here’s the list that he came up with –  the 1914 Chevrolet Royal Mail, the 1955 Chevrolet Bel Air, the 1962 Chevrolet Bel Air 409, the 1963 Corvette Stingray and the 2010 Corvette ZR1.
