When GM first released its Head Up Display (HUD) system on the 1989 Grand Prix Turbo, it made waves in the automotive community. Previously found only on jet fighters, it helped usher the way the modern motorist gets their information today.
HUD technology has been finding its way into other cars from GM over the last few decades, including Corvettes, Cadillacs, and even the current Camaro. But when we heard about the new full color HUD in the 2014 Zl1 from our friends over at Camaro News, we had to let you guys in on it!
As it turns out, as son as you turn the key to your updated, 580 horsepower monster, you’re greeted by a legit chrome-surrounded gold bow tie on your windshield. Then it reverts to the typical green overlay speedometer that you would normally see in any other GM car with HUD. But if you switch over to the tachometer, it’s in full color as well – with three colors depicting the virtual tachometer. It’s a really nice touch that helps bring our favorite pony car into the next decade.
Whether you like the refresh of the 2014 Camaro or not, think of it as Chevrolet paving the way for the future, and things can only get more interesting with the upcoming 6th-Gen Camaro in 2016.
