Big Rob is known for producing some of the best street racing and drag racing videos on YouTube. This little video happens to feature Shawn Ellington, aka Murder Nova of Street Outlaws fame, set to race his ’57 Chevy driving rival, Krazy Kelly. However as they were getting ready to race disaster struck.
On a quiet sunny day in Oklahoma, both cars were lined up to race on a strip of back country road. The road was blocked off by trucks behind the staging area, so on coming traffic wouldn’t interrupt the racers, and a water box was set up on the concrete so the drivers could do their burnouts.
Both Shawn and Kelley proceeded to do their burnouts to warm the tires for the race. After the smoke from their tires cleared, Shawn lined up his Nova in the right hand lane. As Kelley attempted to line up his ’57 Chevy in the left hand lane, he was interrupted by an on coming car. The flag man signaled for the on coming car to move over, further to the left.
However, this car was being stubborn and continued to drive toward the racers. Kelley (being the bigger man) took his ’57 Chevy down the road in the right lane to get out of the cars way. As he drove, smoke began to come out from under the hood, and a fire had started in the engine compartment He turned onto the grass just past the finish line.
The Camera man along with a few other guys, including Shawn (in his Nova), rushed to help put out the flames. More trouble started as they were fighting the flames when a police car drove by. The police car saw the flames and the officer rushed over to help.
The cop was friendly, he was happy to help and glad to see a 57 Chevy still on the road! Hey was cool with the guys racing and told them that he would look the other way when he proclaimed “I have nooooo jurisdiction on this road right here.” How many times have you been that fortunate when you were doing something you shouldn’t be doing?
