Fast cars. Cash money. And women with well-endowed posteriors. These are all (almost) universally considered to be great and awesome things, no matter what country or creed you hail from. Our friends to the South in Brazil are especially into American cars and big booties, and have recently begun adopting other American traditions, like poorly-produced pop music that grates against the eardrum like fingernails on a chalkboard.
So why are we showing you MC Britney’s latest music video? Because it features a very pretty lady who happens to be overly-attached to her Chevy Camaro SS. Her music may not be to our liking, but MC Britney knows a thing or two about great cars, even naming one of her songs “Camaro.”
MC Britney is performing a beloved mixture of Miami Bass (i.e. booty shakin’ music) and freestyle rapping called “favela funk”, and our attractive MC decides to rap about her… Camaro SS. At least, that is what we think she is rapping about, as no one in our offices speak Portuguese. She does caress the steering wheel though, and makes us envious of the this particular Camaro’s leather seats. Oh, and let us not forget MC Britney’s fondness for champagne.
Where were we? Right, so the music itself is rather terrible, at least to our sensitive American tastes. Also, the irony of rapping about wealth and American automobiles in a musical style that originated from some of the poorest places on the planet is a bit ironic… but then we’d have to break down the entire American hip-hop genre as well, wouldn’t we? Besides, some of her videos featuring some rather boring crossover SUV’s have racked up about 3 million views, so she must be doing something right.
Our suggestion is to turn down the volume, and just enjoy the video with the classical cacophony of Beethoven blasting in the background. You can thank us later.
