The idea of a Corvette pace car is not new. In fact, in the last five decades, Corvette has paced more Indianapolis 500 races than any other model, making its 12th appearance as the official race vehicle of the event just last weekend. But this weekend, the Corvette Pace Car takes on a different track – the circuit at the Chevrolet Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix. Check out the car in the flesh and what this weekend’s pace car driver, GM President North America Mark Reuss, had to say about the car in the video above.

Chevy has been taking the IZOD IndyCar Series by storm this year, coming out as the top manufacturer in four of the last five races. But beyond the American engines that power many of the competing IndyCar teams, Chevrolet is making a run at being the most consistent pace vehicle and official event car provider for the series.

This weekend in Detroit, the new C7 Stingray will once again pace the IndyCar race.

This marks an especially significant moment for Chevrolet as they pace their own sponsored race in their own backyard. And of course, it doesn’t hurt that they’re breaking out the big guns and showcasing their latest pride and joy, the new Stingray as the iconic pace machine.

A true honor for anyone, the position of this weekends’ pace car driver goes to Reuss, beloved GM president. And although he’s been more involved in the creative process of the C7 Stingray than many, he still had some eye-opening things to say about the new sports car.
