Video: Fireball ’16 Camaro Back At It With A 9-Second Pass

The team at B&R Performance and Calibrated by Karger are back at it again in their ’16 Camaro, better known as the Fireball Camaro. Less than a month ago, the Fireball Camaro held the title as the first sixth-gen SS to break into the 10s. The car made a 10.60-second quarter mile pass at 128.81 MPH with the help of a custom tuning calibration, a set of drag radials, and a 150 shot of nitrous courtesy of a kit from Nitrous Express.

It looks like the collaborative efforts on the Fireball Camaro have once again paid off, as the car has viciously entered into the high 9s during a recent pass with the aide of some additional modifications. This solidifies the Fireball Camaro as the first sixth-gen Camaro to enter the high 9s.

20160106_171624GRThe Fireball Performance Mod Team received a second opportunity to run its ’16 Camaro at the Osage Tulsa Raceway Park in Tulsa, Oklahoma on Wednesday morning. With temperatures in the low 40s, B&R Performance driver Ryan Martin initiated the first pass, running the Camaro naturally aspirated and accomplishing a 10.95-second quarter mile at 127.69 mph. This puts the new pass closer to the previous nitrous engaged best pass of 10.60.

The team was able to accomplish its latest pass at the strip thanks to the help of the guys at Brian Tooley Racing. The company was able to provide the Fireball Camaro with some bolt-on upgrades. A custom-ground camshaft, lightly-ported OEM cylinder heads, a revised and larger custom exhaust and headers system, as well as a new tuning calibration are some of the highlights the sixth-gen Camaro received to achieve the faster and from what we know of now first naturally aspirated pass for a sixth-gen in the 10s.

The Fireball Performance Mod Team quickly found the limits of the OEM half-shafts after attempting another pass in the 650 RWHP Camaro. Luckily, the team came prepared to the track with an extra set of factory axels ready to be put in.

The Fireball Performance Mod Team quickly found the limits of the OEM half-shafts after attempting another pass in the 650 RWHP Camaro. Luckily, the team came to the track prepared , bringing with them an extra set of factory shafts ready to be put in for a run on another day due to weather conditions deteriorating.

The real fun began when the team decided to up the ante of the Fireball Camaros capabilities by introducing the addition of the Nitrous Express nitrous system (PN 20938-10) during the second pass. Fully engaged, Martin and the team were able to take the Camaro into uncharted sixth-gen territory. The Camaro executed a flawless pass, achieving a 9.831 second quarter-mile and trapping 137.92 mph – resetting the current record for the world’s quickest and fastest ’16 Camaro.

IMG_0843GRJames Karger of Calibrated by Karger says, “We were now ready to test the limits of the factory LT1 engine, transmission, differential, and axles so we could properly prepare our Fireball Camaro in the future for extreme abuse. We are now working closely with GForce Engineering to build us a set of indestructible axles that will be standard issue on the 2016 Fireball Edition Camaros. We plan to have these in the coming weeks and be back out to Osage Tulsa Motorsports Park to push this car even further. The lessons we are learning with our test cars continue to help us bring big improvements in power to the latest Camaro platform, while remaining reliable enough for daily driving chores (as if driving this 800-plus horsepower Camaro could ever be called a chore).”

To say that the teams involved with the Fireball Camaro know what they’re doing would definitely be an understatement. It’s clear that everyone involved in the project has the same agenda, and that’s to pioneer the latest Camaro’s performance.

Stay up-to-date with us as we continue bring you the latest testing of the Fireball Camaro package from B&R Performance. For more information on the Fireball Camaro, head over to the B&R performance website.

We’re guessing it won’t be long until this Fireball Camaro sees an 8-second pass in its future.
