Taking something that isn’t meant to be a performance vehicle and massaging it into one is a hallmark of the high performance hobby, and certainly of drag racing, as well. For some racers, its all about being different and making something off the wall work. 

Making a truck or SUV into a 1320 warrior is nothing new, however some racers take the old formula and put a wicked twist on it. Daniel Burk has taken a 1988 Blazer and put more wicked twists on it than your average roller coaster. 

The sport utility vehicle has been part of the American car culture forever. GM has been making the Suburban since 1933, and then started making its kid brother, the Blazer, in 1969. The Blazer was based originally on a truck chassis with a short wheelbase aimed at being competition for the Bronco and Jeep. But, the Blazer was never really designed to be a drag strip battering ram.

Getting a 1988 S10 Blazer to move at a high rate of speed takes some serious power, and Daniel addressed that need in a big way. Under the hood is a max-effort build 420 cubic inch small block Chevy. All-motor, this mill puts out a stout 900 horsepower to the wheels, but why stop there? Burk decided to smack the motor with a nice healthy dose of nitrous oxide — roughly 400 horsepower worth to be exact. All of that power pushes the Blazer to low nine-second passes at over 126 mph. It’s pretty obvious how nasty this Chevy is when you see it leave on the bars and sounding pretty pissed off in the process. Rumor on the street is when the clocks are off and the grudge money is on the line, Daniel can punch this hot rod into the 8’s.
