Labor Day weekend in San Diego brings the annual Sand Sculpting Challenge and 3D Art Exposition, where incredible works of art are constructed out of sand. Not just any works of art, but spectacular masterpieces that become world famous.
Launching their campaign for the new mid-sized truck, Chevrolet brought in a crew to create a full sized sculpture of the 2015 Colorado made mostly out of sand.
“It’s a great fit for the Colorado to be partnered with the U.S. Sand Sculpting Championships,” said Tony Johnson, Colorado marketing manager. “With Southern California being the largest mid-size truck market in the country, the Colorado is right at home here in San Diego.”
In just over five-days, the crew built the forms, filled them with sand, added the correct amount of water, compacted the sand and carved the sculpture in exact detail. Taking 75,000 pounds of sand and creating a work of art that looks like you could jump in and drive away is no small task.
Adding to the work of art was the nice touch of some actual hard parts from the truck. Hard parts were limited to wheels, taillights, badges, and a grille/headlight assembly.
According to the folks at Chevrolet, “with the introduction of Colorado, Chevrolet will offer customers more choices than any other pickup truck brand, including midsize, full-size light duty and heavy-duty pickups.”
Chevrolet debuted the 2015 Chevrolet Colorado last November at the 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show in Los Angeles, California. It only makes sense that the truck made it’s sand appearance on the beach in San Diego. The Colorado will be available in Chevrolet dealerships nationwide in the fall of 2014.
