The Silver State Classic is the archetypal event in the somewhat “over the top” world of open road racing, where all kinds of cars run flat out on public highways. And the archetypal (and even more “over the top”) example of a Silver State competitor is Big Red, the 1969 Camaro that defined the Unlimited Class, running at a top speed of 203 MPH way back in 1989. Since then, the car has lived many lives in both top speed and open road racing, and even starred in its own television series on NBCSN.

Now, the creators of Big Red have teamed up with some prominent industry leaders including Forgeline to create a Big Red Camaro 5th Gen tribute based on Chevy’s amazing Z/28.  The car’s eventual destiny will be to cross the block at auction at Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale next year, with 100 percent of the proceeds donated to Ride2Recovery to support their Project Hero program, which focuses on community and military based recovery and rehabilitation programs for veterans, based around a cycling theme.

In the video above, you’ll get a look at Forgeline’s custom GX3R three-piece wheels being crafted for this special project, which also enlists SLP for engine upgrades including intake, exhaust, and a supercharger, and UMI, which is contributing rear suspension upgrades to compliment the Z/28’s world class handling.
