America may be a land of a great many incredible vehicles, but if we had to choose one vehicle to represent this nation, it is without a doubt the pickup truck. Not only are pickups the best-selling vehicles year after year in America, but they are also the most practical and useful ones to boot. Pickups helped build America, quite literally, and we think they deserve some love in the limelight.
So when we came across this video, taken by the Performance Driving Network, of a 10-second, turbocharged pickup still wearing a toolbox and missing a bunch of paint, we knew we had to share it with you, our pickup-loving fans. After some deep Googling, we’ve gathered that this 1994 Chevy Silverado pickup truck likely belongs to Bervil Hillis, from Sikeston, Mossouri. If our research is correct, under the patina-covered hood is an LS1 with a big single turbo.
What exactly do you get when you match an LS1 with a turbocharger? You get a 10-second pickup truck, that’s what. At the end of the above video, this old school work truck runs a 10.9 second quarter mile, at a stunning 121 mph. So despite being almost 20 years old, missing a lot of paint, and harboring a huge toolbox in back, this beat-up pickup proves that you better never bet against ‘Merica, no matter how long the odds look.
