Owning a monster C6 Corvette with a twin turbo powerplant that puts down 1,500 horsepower is undeniably cool. What’s not cool is taking that Corvette out onto the highway and almost wrecking multiple cars with it while trying to roll race.
We’re not sure who the driver is in the video, but the car, built by Northshore Speed and D3 Performance Engineering, is clearly a beast. So much so that when he jumps the gun and starts accelerating away from the 900-horse Nissan GT-R camera car, the Corvette loses traction and cuts across three lanes of traffic, very nearly causing a massive pileup.

Two GT-R’s plus a Corvette would make for one expensive wreck. If he’d slid in the other direction, Mr. Honda would have gotten pushed into the center divide.
In addition to legitimate track activities like dragstrip roll and dig racing, and dyno competitions, impromptu illegal street racing has become a big component of the annual TX2k meet. As the event draws ever-more-powerful cars from across the continent each year, it seems like near misses have gotten more and more frequent. While there’s little the organizers can do to control what people do after hours (even if they wanted to), we’re afraid the clock is ticking until a big wreck on the street puts an end to the party for good.
Let’s hope this was a lesson learned for all involved, and that they display a bit more caution in the future. If you’re going to let that 1,500 horsepower beast eat, do it somewhere safe.
