Corvette drag racing videos will always be at least a little bit controversial – the Corvette has never been a car that was really designed for straight line speed, though it happens to be a pretty capable car in the 1320, so you’ll always ruffle some feathers when you start modifying one for low ET’s.
Such is the case for this C6 Z06 from Redline Motorsports. We’re not in possession of the full details of the build, other than knowing a few crucial facts. One, it’s equipped with twin turbos, and two, Redline recently switched it over from a 4L80 automatic to a two-speed Powerglide transmission.
As it heads down-track in the video, you can clearly hear the single gearchange, the hallmark of the tried-and-true ‘glide. Whatever the combination may be, it’s good for sixty foot times in the low one-twenties, and mid eight-fifties in the quarter mile with a trap speed of 155 and change, while running 15 pounds of boost.
While they’re still chasing down suspension and boost control settings, we’d say they are off to a good start. Now that they have their baseline, the next milestone to cross is cranking up the boost to 24 PSI and exploring the true power potential of this sports car turned drag racer.
With the C7 Z06 finally available, is it a crime to take a previous-gen Corvette like this Z06 and dedicate it to living life a quarter mile at a time? Let us know what you think in the comments below…
