Continuing our top-ten countdown we check out the number eight and number seven songs in our “best of” list. Remember that these are the songs that are most likely to get you in trouble with traffic cops. These next two tunes are responsible for funding almost every police department’s traffic control division West of the Mississippi.
That little band from Texas, ZZ Top, will always be linked to souped up hot rods, due to the presence of high-dollar custom cars in almost every video from the band. The other video in our countdown is simply a song that rocks a steady beat by the dashboard light.
Number Eight: La Grange by ZZ Top
ZZ Top was known for their strong blues roots and humorous lyrical motifs that relied heavily on double entendres and innuendo. In 1973, the group dropped the double entendres and went straight for the jugular, releasing the Tres Hombres album that featured the song La Grange.
La Grange was written about a brothel outside of La Grange, Texas, that would became notoriously famous as the best little whorehouse in Texas. The song has been used in many movies where car action dominates the screen, and is featured in the NASCAR The Game: 2011 soundtrack. When the opening bars start playing on the radio, it is worth at least another 20mph.
Number Seven: Paradise By The Dashboard Light by Meat Loaf
Meat Loaf’s Bat Out Of Hell album featured the cut, Paradise By The Dashboard Light. There is no doubt that this song, which had energy-intensive vocals, was the most popular track on the album. The pulsing beat and driving lyrics helped pump the album into consideration as one of the highest selling albums of all time, with an estimated 43 million copies sold globally.
This is probably the only time you will hear the lyrics “Stop right there,” in a song that we consider a speed inducing tune.
