Throwback Thursday: TCI Talks About Tubular Suspension Parts

It’s hard to believe the end of another week is almost here and another Friday is about to hit our doorstep. It’s true when they say time flies when you’re having fun. Now that the end of the week is announcing its arrival, that means it’s time for another Throwback Thursday.

This flashback sees us taking a trip back to June 2016 to check out, Getting Technical With TCI About Tubular Suspension Parts. Adding tubular subframes, control arms, and other high-performance suspension items are normal practice, but how many of you guys really think about the upgrade?

Tubular suspension parts deliver more than just upgraded performance.

When it comes to upgrading your car’s suspension, the sky is the limit. You can utilize a four-link rear suspension, tubular control arms, or an all-new front clip. The benefits of tubular suspension parts – in whichever direction you choose – are clear. It just depends on how far you want to modify your car, and how much your budget will allow.

In the original article, we talked to Jason Wilcox and Sal Solorzano of Total Cost Involved (TCI Engineering) to get some valid input about tubular suspension parts. “When you are involved in performance driving, you start pushing these cars to its limit. If you do this while using the stock suspension system, the alignment can easily get out of whack and things can get out of hand,” explained Wilcox. “During a turn where the car experiences increased G-force, you have to remember that you’re moving a 3,000-pound car and that force can wreak havoc on alignment.”

Not only is this tubular front suspension stronger than a factory unit, but it’s also lighter and improves suspension geometry.

Wilcox went on to explain, “when building suspension parts, there is no better material to start with than mandrel-bent steel tubing. The round tube is the lightest and toughest possible structure you can use. The steel tubing is both lighter and stronger than the stock components, and the design allows builders to tweak the material’s wall thickness to get the best possible weight-to-strength ratio. Using tubular-steel suspension parts grants you both greater strength and less weight. The lighter frontend improves performance by providing a better weight balance for the car.”

There’s a lot more great insight in this informative article, and that definitely makes it worthy of a second look. For that reason, I selected Getting Technical With TCI About Tubular Suspension Parts as this week’s Throwback Thursday showcase article.
