Ready or not, the week is finally coming to an end. That’s right, it’s time for another Throwback Thursday. Each week we take a look back through the Power Automedia vaults and locate an article we feel is worthy of another look. If you own a classic car — better yet, a beater of a classic car, you know the troubles of dealing with worn-out parts. Going through the checklist of components that need replacing can be a daunting task. Such was the case for a 1972 Monte Carlo, owned by Vinny Costa.

The Monte’s box was worn and leaking, which is a common problem for many enthusiasts. That’s why swapping it for a completely new unit from Borgeson is a good idea.

Vinny wrote, “The car was purchased on the cheap, with the hopes in mind of creating a budget sleeper. Subsequently, it went through a host of changes and upgrades. Some things not yet touched were the suspension, steering, and brakes.

The box he installed was a new 12.7:1 ratio, which equates to the steering wheel having less than three turns lock-to-lock. “It’s done with a nice effort to it, so you feel like you’re driving the car, and not floating all over the road,” says Jeff Grantmeyer of Borgeson.
