Throwback Thursday: Why Pay Someone Else To Change Gears?

It’s hard to believe that another Thursday has already crept-up on us, and is announcing the impending end of another work week. If you’re like me, you’ve already planned what you’ll be working on this weekend. If those plans involve wrenching – let’s just say on a rearend – we can help with that. Once again, we celebrate another editorial look-back, and jump into the way back machine to open the Power Automedia vault that houses our vast collection of articles and revisit another great informational piece.

In this Throwback Thursday, we’re taking a short step back to July 2017. That’s when we got a personal lesson from Jeff Anderson of Moser Engineering about changing rearend gears. We’re certain you will enjoy this editorial trip back in time. So, without further ado, let’s take a look at: Rearend Rehab: Why Pay Someone Else To Change Gears?

In the original article, we discuss some of the pitfalls you need to be cognizant of, and even how to diagnose different unusual sounds that have been known to emanate from one’s rearend. For instance, one of the key recommendations that Jeff made was, “I would say have someone help you who has done it before… At least as an over-the-shoulder instructor or guide. Some parts of the process are more than can be discerned off YouTube videos, and being your first time, you want to make sure you are following the proper steps. You really need to understand the interaction of the pinion to the ring gear, pre-load, shims, and everything else that is critical to setting up a ring-and-pinion.”

The original article dives deep into the terminology involved, and what all needs to be considered when installing gears. Taking a look back at the original article can make sure that you are fully equipped with the information you need to handle the task in your home garage.

So, check out the article. You’ll be glad you did. You will surely gather a lot of information about swapping gears, and for that reason, I thought this a great piece for this week’s Throwback Thursday flashback. To find out how more, check out; Rearend Rehab: Why Pay Someone Else To Change Gears?
