Flowmaster’s “special projects” shop has done what appears to be a relatively user-friendly exhaust install on a beautiful, ’66 Chevelle with a 327.

In this instance, Flowmaster is using their American Thunder exhaust kit to spruce the whole thing up, and with the motor built and the kind of money that’s been invested in this Chevelle, one would certainly hope that it sounds as well as it looks and runs.

Nothing makes a nice street car stand-out like an angry rumble from a beefed-up exhaust, and with Flowmaster, we never have any doubts that their system will produce just that kind of sound.

The American Thunder exhaust kit comes with everything you need to do the job, including the Super-40 muffler, pre-welded H-pipe, mounting brackets with rubber isolators, muffler hanger rods and, of course, Flowmaster’s Super-40 muffler comes with the bright-colored, inlet indicators, making it that much easier and safer to install the unit.

Installation is not grueling at all, in fact, the hanger brackets that come with the kit bolt right on to the factory mounting holes in the upper control-arm. The isolators slip right into place, as do the hanger rods, both front and rear. The American Thunder kit also includes the exit pipe needed to finish the whole thing off, and the result, as seen in this Chevelle’s dyno run, is a throaty sound that proudly pronounces the primitive small block’s performance.

Of all the Chevelles that GM ever built, 1966 has always been my favorite year; how grateful could any of us be that Flowmaster has captured the exhaust-note of the era better than any other exhaust manufacturer on the aftermarket?
