Billy Boat is one hottest custom exhaust manufacturers in the country. Rising from humble beginnings in the small mining town of San Manuel, Arizona to the now famous performance gurus they are today. They offer a full line up of killer sounding and performing exhaust systems for luxury and high performance cars, light trucks, and high performance watercraft.
To get to know Billy Boat Exhaust (BBE) and how they got to where they are today, let’s set the dials of the time machine back to 1952 and get the the backstory of the Boat family and their legacy.
The automotive aftermarket industry was nearly nonexistent after WWII. If you wanted to hop up your car or go faster, you had to be very creative and either re-purpose or build your own parts.
Back in the day, you had to build what you needed. Necessity begets ingenuity.
Whether from scratch, junkyards or military surplus, the golden years of Hot Rodding were forged from the ingenuity of these innovators, and patriarch Billy Boat Sr. was one of those guys that literally created the hobby. His first project at 10 years old was strapping a washing machine motor to a home made go-kart and tearing up the streets of sleepy post-war Arizona.
The ’60s would have many milestones for the Boat family. Billy Sr. and his brother jumped into auto racing and won the 1962 Winter Nationals. Billy Sr.’s first son Billy Boat was born and the family diversified with involvement in hydroplanes and ASRA sports car racing.
Billy Boat Sr. and scion Billy Boat spent many hours in his uncle’s garage, where the the number-one-son learned to weld at the tender age of eight years old. It was in a four car garage behind his uncle’s house that young Billy would go on to work on various speed related builds.
Bill Sr. and wife Velda soon opened Sun Valley Automotive, which specialized in auto repair and racing fabrication. It is here where Billy built his first set of exhaust headers at just 10 years old, fabricating a custom pair for a Ford Pinto which he raced in the ASRA sports car division. Other projects included Yamaha 3 wheelers and racing headers for Volkswagon powered midgets.
Racing was a big part of the Boat family and Billy passed his need for speed on to his two sons under the conditions that you have to be able to build it, you have be able to work on it, and if you crash it, you better be able to fix it.
Like father, like son. Billy Boat spent many hours with his own sons tinkering and building all sorts of four-wheeled creations.
Those early racing years taught the brothers welding, bending, machining and other fabrication skills not taught in any classroom. They built go karts, modified midgets, midgets, and sprint cars with all the real life experience that goes along with that.

Billy Boat raced professionally from 1982 to 2003, in a career that saw success in many divisions, including midgets, sprint cars, and Indy cars.
For C3-C7 Corvette owners, BBE provides high quality construction and an incredible baritone exhaust note. BBE uses only the best T-304 stainless steel with reinforced stress points to assure longevity and performance.
There are two kinds of exhaust customers, loud and louder, and Billy Boat gives you the best of both worlds with it’s patented “no drone” technology. Billy Boat Performance Exhaust PRT after-cat system employs exhaust techÂnology unique to the aftermarket.
As close to gearhead art as it comes. Billy Boat quality speaks for itself.
So unique, in fact, it doesn’t use a muffler at all. The Billy Boat Performance Exhaust PRT system is simple in design, though more complex in theory, so you can have a mellow sound at cruising speeds and a sport note when you’re tearing up the streets. It allows true straight through exhaust passage under aggressive driving conditions.
For those of you with bleached cochlea after a long drive in your Corvette, Billy Boat’s No-Drone technology will be music to your ears.
