When it comes to moving air for cooling, electric fans do the job nicely. When it comes to moving air for cooling quietly, SPAL USA throws a curve at the issue. Well known for its OEM and aftermarket electric cooling fans, SPAL continues to refine its curved fan blade technology since 1959.

SPAL’s reputation is steeped in making high-performance cooling fans that are lightweight and quieter than traditional fans while fitting in tight space requirements. In a recent press release, SPAL explained the popularity of its curved fan blades. “The quietness of the curved blade design is something our drivers appreciate,” said Thom Balistrieri, director of aftermarket sales, SPAL USA.  “As space becomes tighter and tighter under the hood, we continue to work to develop low- and medium-profile fans that optimize the performance of more vehicles. Typically, curved blade fans perform better at low static pressure levels and make less noise when compared to comparable straight blade models” added Balistrieri.

SPAL’s curved blade fans feature 12V long-life motors that are IP68-certified as waterproof and dustproof.  The curved blade fan line includes three low-profile offerings: a 10-inch model (#30100435) weighing in at 2.5 pounds; an 11-inch fan (#30100411) also 2.5-pounds; and a 12-inch unit (#30100467) that weighs only 2.75-pounds.  A medium-profile, 12-inch Curved Blade Fan (#30101522) weighs in at 3.5 pounds.

In addition to the standard curved blade fan configuration, SPAL also offers various sized fans in a curved paddle blade configuration.  The curved paddle blade style is widely considered to be amongst the quietest blade style options available.  “The curved edges decrease noise levels without sacrificing performance.  The increased surface area adds weight to the blade in turn, reducing RPM and increasing current draw,” said Balistrieri.  He added, “The curved paddle blade-style tend to flex more due to the increased weight and are thus not recommend for high-vibration applications.”

Founded in 1959, SPAL is headquartered in Correggio, Italy, and is a leading manufacturer of ISO 9001- and IATF 16949-certified OEM and aftermarket automotive products, including brushed and brushless electric cooling fans, centrifugal blowers.

Continuous research and development efforts have earned SPAL an excellent reputation for high-quality products and state-of-the-art engineering and manufacturing processes.  Upon request, SPAL can custom design many of its products to meet specific customer requirements.
