We all know how it goes- how that car project that was only supposed to take a couple of weeks stretches into months or even years. While not optimal, after a project has gone on much longer than planned, it makes the finished product that much more amazing. One Pro-Touring forum member is finding that out this summer. After 17 years, his ‘68 Camaro SS is finally rounding the last leg of its project run, and we must say, the finished product will be well worth the wait.
The forum member, Tango Charlie, appropriately calls his project car “Pro- Crastination.” He states in his forum posts that he bought the car 17 years ago when his daughter was three. She is now in her third year of college. It’s not really Charlie’s fault that the project has taken so long, however. From insinuations in his posts, he is in the military and has completed a few tours over seas in his years of service. For this, we thank him. Unfortunately his service hasn’t helped him turn his project car into a pro-touring beauty very fast, however.
The car started out as a stock ‘68 Camaro SS convertible. In 2000, Charlie had all the body work and paint work done on the car. In 2010, the main part of modifications began. Just like every project, there were surprises along the way for Charlie, as he found out the floors were completely rusted through and needed to be replaced in order to create a solid ride. A complete rotisserie pro-touring restoration has taken place on the car. DynaTech headers, Baer brakes, a full suspension set-up and an LSX engine are just a few of the goodies Charlie disclosed to having put on the car. Finished in ‘69 LeMans Blue and rolling on RaceLine GT II wheels, the Camaro is set to have all the creature comforts of a brand new car.
Charlie stated in his last post that he hopes the “new birth” of his car will occur before September. He would like to attend some events with his completed pro-touring car before the season is over. We wish Charlie the best of luck in finishing his project and can’t wait to see the finished product!
