Before the advent of air conditioning, power seats, and six-speaker sound systems, trucks were meant for one thing — carry supplies. Now, buying a new truck affords the consumer more amenities than dear ole dad ever imagined — big shiny wheels included. However, there was a time when a simple stamped steel Rally wheel was a serious step up in the looks department.
If you’re driving a C10 pickup and have to find a set of good-looking wheels that will fit your hauler but want an OE look, the 42-series Rally wheel is probably just what you need. Wheel Vintiques has just announced the re-release of a newly re-tooled version of this classic truck wheel. While reproduction 42-series GM pickup Rally wheels have been available in years past, the center section of an original wheel was used as a starting point. Wheel Vintiques would weld a new hoop onto the original center and then powdercoat it. While this made for a strong wheel finding cores became increasingly difficult. To solve this problem, Wheel Vintiques decided it would be best to fabricate new tooling to build the centers in-house.
The new 42-series GM pickup Rally line is available in three sizes: 15×7, 15×8 and 15×10 inches. These three sizes will be applied to two center designs — one with a 5×5-inch bolt pattern that features 16 rectangular windows and one with a 6×5.5-inch bolt pattern with 10 larger rectangular windows. The five-lug wheel offers direct fitment on any Chevrolet or GMC half-ton two-wheel-drive truck from 1971 to 1998. The six-lug version is a great choice for earlier C10s with the 6-lug bolt pattern. They also work well on K10 four-wheel-drive trucks and K5 Blazers from the 1970s and 1980s.
All Wheel Vintiques wheels are proudly made right here in the USA with precision tooling to make a wheel with clean, crisp lines. Robotic welding with precise jigs makes for a perfectly true wheel as the center and hoop are welded together. With heavy-gauge steel and precision assembly, these wheels are capable of supporting heavy loads. After the wheel is manufactured and welded, it goes through an automated chemical wash cycle and then through the powdercoating line for a factory-looking silver powdercoat finish.
