Last week, we brought you footage of the crew of The Build starting in on the tear-down process of their 1965 Malibu project car. While they made a big dent in the front end tear-down, they still have a ways to go, and this week they tear even deeper into the car, revealing frame issues, engine issues and a lot more work. Check it out above.
After doing a rough pull of the front sheet metal on last week’s episode, the American Modern crew is off to a good start. In this episode, they dig even deeper, however, sawing off the front half of the front fenders, removing headlight housings and exposing some underlying issues that weren’t able to be seen before.
While the crew expected that the frame was a bit tweaked beyond repair, it wasn’t until they pulled the front fenders off that they were able to get a good look at what they were really dealing with.
Underneath the crumpled sheet metal, they found a frame literally folded over itself, giving the guys and gal on the project good reason for getting that ‘65 GTO convertible frame they acquired a couple weeks back.
Other issues that the crew have come across are damage to the engine pulleys and water pump fan. Luckily, the water pump itself isn’t cracked or damaged and now the crew will be able to determine for certain what kind of engine they’re pulling out of the classic Chevy.
Next week, the crew moves from the front of the car to the back, moving forward even more on the Malibu project.
Be sure to come back next week as we reveal just what’s next on the project’s list.
