The brand new COPO Camaro is a force to be reckoned with and with the first few fifth-gen models finally making their way to their new owners, we’re bound to see a fight for the finish on tracks all across the country soon. But while we wait for more COPOs to make their presence known, Lingenfelter Performance Engineering is already working to stir up the competition behind the wheel of their bright red COPO model. This weekend the team will be competing in the Lingenfelter Performance Nationals at Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk, Ohio and they brought their brand new toy with them to show off. Check it out in the video above.
As you know, lucky owners are faced with the choice between a naturally aspirated 427ci LS7, or a 327ci LSX fitted with either a 2.9L or 4.0L supercharger. For their COPO, Lingenfelter opted for the later of the three- the 5.3L engine with the big 4.0L Whipple Supercharger. Driving the power from the engine to the ground, the car also makes use of a two-speed Powerglide transmission- perfect for hella-quick passes on the drag strip.
And that’s exactly what this car is capable of, as you can see in the video above. During the September 21st drag racing Test-N-Tune at the event, the Lingenfelter crew piloted their COPO to an amazing 9.44-second quarter mile the car’s first time out with a trap speed of 153.98mph. Not too shabby for a factory production car.
Lingenfelter will be out at the Nationals all weekend long, showcasing some of their products as well as bringing the heat to their competition. If you’re in the Norwalk area, be sure to stop by the event. A glimpse at the Lingenfelter COPO Camaro will be well worth the trip.
