The man known as Super Tex, A.J. Foyt, could be the next person to receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom. All he needs is just a little help from the racing community.
Verizon Indy Car fan Greg Bailey has petitioned the White House to award Foyt this prestigious honor for his contributions to motorsports. Foyt is the only driver to win the Indianapolis 500 four times, and has also won the Daytona 500, the 24 Hour of Daytona, the 12 Hours f Sebring, the 24 Hours Of Le Mans, the International Race of Champions, and the Firecracker 400.
Foyt is also the only driver to win the Indianapolis 500 in both a front and rear engine car. He has amassed 41 USAC Stock car victories and 50 Sprint Car, Midget, and Dirt Champ Car wins. His racing resume boasts a record 12 USAC National Championships.
Foyt has also been inducted into the National Midget Hall of Fame, the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America, the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame, and the International Motorsports Hall of Fame. He was also named as one of NASCAR’s greatest drivers in 1998. It’s easy to see that Foyt is deserving of this honor. The only other person in motorsports to receive this honor is “The King,” Richard Petty, who received his medal from President George Bush in 1992.
Please take a minute from your day and sign the petition to insure Foyt receives his well deserved due. Click here to sign the petition, and feel free to share this with your friends.
