By midnight of December 31st, almost all U.S. combat troops will pull out of Iraq, ending one of America’s Middle East wars. Without trying to make a political statement, it is a fact that over 4,000 U.S. troops have died in Iraq, and over 30,000 were injured. The U.S. government has programs in place to tend to the families of war victims, but the private sector contributes a lot to take care of our wounded warriors as well.
General Motorsis very active in supporting the U.S. military, and their most recent effort involves the donation of proceeds from the auction of a military-themed Camaro. The Camaro, which represents all five branches of the U.S. armed forces, was designed and airbrushed by the renowned Mickey Harris. The unique Camaro will be unveiled at this Saturday’s Army-Navy football game, before being donated at the upcoming Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale, Arizona in January. The proceeds will be donated to the Achilles Freedom Team of Wounded Veterans.
True, it is part publicity stunt, but GM and other automakers have long supported our troops in uniform. The Camaro will be unveiled at the Army-Navy Game on Saturday, and GM will bring several military families to the event to help pay tribute to our nation’s wounded warriors. Is there any nobler cause than that?
