If there were ever a battle for the most famous Camaro ever, we’d bet that it just might be Stacy Tucker’s blue ’69. It’s one of the original Detroit Speed test cars and anyone who has attended a Good Guys autocross or a Pro-Touring event as of late has likely seen Stacy behind the wheel.
As with all racers, sooner or later an accident occurs, and Stacy’s indecent occurred during the Top 10 Shootout during the autocross segment at the annual Run to the Hills event in Tennessee during the last weekend of September. Out of the 78 cars in the event Stacy was running 4th at the time.
As with all accidents, the timing couldn’t have been worse as the car needed to be ready to compete in the Optima Ultimate Street Car Invitational event the day after the SEMA show! Fortunately, with the talented staff and resources at Detroit Speed and Engineering they were able to put Humpty Dumpty back together again in just a few weeks. The front end impact required an entire front clip for the Camaro, including the sub-frame, but all was replaced just in time!
More pictures of the rebuild are available directly on Detroit Speed’s website.
Never to be defeated, Detroit Speed scrambled to rebuild the DSE '69 Camaro in record time...just in time for the Optima Ultimate Street Car Invitational.
