The late 1950’s brought with it a flair unlike any other era. American confidence in the face of communism was never hire, and the onset of the jet age inspired everything from appliances to automobiles. Many people still think the 1950’s produced some of the most beautiful American cars known to man, and who are we to disagree?
This heavily customized 1959 Chevrolet Impala up on eBay makes a strong argument, yet it is the beautiful, subtle modifications that really take this 50’s example of flair to the next level.
The 1959 Chevy Impala was in so many ways to endgame of automotive styling for the 1950’s; not only did it come at the end of the decade, but it was so over-the-top that out-flairing such a car would be all but impossible. So rather than try to make this cool cruiser stand out even more, the builders modified it in low-key ways, like a 1961 Mercury grille and a louvered hood.
And the paint job is immaculate. Seriously, we’re not much for 50’s pastels, but this flakey paint job is done just right. We really dig this ride, especially when it sits all lowered to the ground, though the inline six-cylinder engines means cruising is all this car is good for. And there ain’t nothing wrong with that. When you car looks this cool, you have to slow down to give everyone a good look.
