Ah, the El Camino … a vehicle that manages to be both repulsive and appealing at the same time, depending on what angle you view it from. It’s never been a particularly attractive vehicle in the traditional aesthetic sense, but there were those that loved the El Camino for its car-like ride and truck-like utility. It never attempted to be particularly stylish, and most buyers were just fine with that, but the builder of this particular vehicle had some thoughts on how to make it look “better”.

Looking more like an emaciated prisoner of war than a venerated muscle car, this particular eBay auction has somehow managed to draw 14 bids at the time of this writing, with the price approaching $10,000. The crazy part? This isn’t even an El Camino; it’s a Chevy Caprice.

Of course you wouldn’t know that just from looking at this ridiculous contraption, but we went ahead and put the VIN through a decoder, and sure enough it came back as belonging to a 1988 Caprice. The succint eBay ad says that this “Supr Chevy Sidestep Sport Truck kit” was built on an ‘88 Caprice chassis, but there’s little to suggest that’s actually the case just from looking at those sunken headlights and oddly-proportioned body panels.

Wood paneling lines the short bed, and Corvette-esque taillights dominate the flush-mounted tailgate that appears to have lost any semblance of actual usage. Under the hood is a Chevy 350 crate motor, and the ad claims that the paint job alone cost $10,000, and looking at the barren interior, it seems the funding may have run out after the paint dried.

Still, if you’re in the market for something weird-yet-unique, this “El Caprico” could be the right eclectic ride for you.
