If you thought the NMRA and NMCA were strictly limited to class-style drag cars, think again – the series has announced that it will host the “Rampage At Route 66” event during their Super Bowl of Street Legal Drag Racing event over the weekend of July 11-14, 2013 in Joliet, Illinois at the Route 66 Raceway.
The Rampage event will bring the stars of the Hot Rod Magazine Drag Week to Joliet, like five-time and defending champ Larry Larson, Jeff Lutz, Joe Barry, and others to the open-format drag race designed to find out who really is the baddest of the bad on true street tires, without the torture test of Drag Week standing in the way. In addition, the NMCA is extending an open invitation to anyone with a real street car who wants to take a chance at unseating one of the bad boys. If’ you’ve got a fast street car, then bring it on down to Route 66 Raceway to get into the event. The open Time Trial format will be run just after the NMCA’s big-dog Pro Street field to make sure that the track conditions are perfect.
There’s just one rule – the car must have license plates and be registered in your state. And the best part? Admission for the car and driver is free. That’s right, you get to race in one of the most prestigious events in the country with the baddest cars in the land – for no charge. Bragging rights are at stake, and the NMCA aims to give a chance for new rivalries to be made. Match racing and grudge racing is not only permitted but encouraged, and all the NMCA asks is that you let them know in advance if you’re coming by sending an email to [email protected].
Perhaps the best part? You just might get some coverage and be famous right here on Dragzine! We’ll be there covering all the action with multiple cameras – we hope to see you (and your badass street car) there!
