In a day and age when fuel economy is ever-increasing in importance, insurance rates continue to climb and more classic car owners leave their collections to rust away in fields, it’s becoming harder to find collection-worthy classics in the mainstream industry. But this week, the Mecum Original Spring Classic auction in Indianapolis, Indiana, will bring out the big guns as museum-quality, rare and ultra-low mileage vehicles cross the stage. And among them will be several historic classics from the Denny Danen Estate being sold with no reserve.

The Denny Danen Estate Collection, consisting of nine classic cars, two trucks, two golf carts, a motorcycle and a trailer, will be auctioned off on Saturday May 18th starting at 10 a.m. with no reserve. Rod Authority thinks some of the most interesting pieces in the collection are a ‘51 Chevy Deluxe Hardtop and a pair of ’58 Impalas, one convertible and one hardtop.

The Aspen and Fathom Green Deluxe was loved by Danen for it’s superior quality, having had a full restoration seven years ago.

The two Impalas, too, were enjoyed but for other reasons-the convertible for its rare Cay Coral paint scheme, and the hardtop for being highly optioned. Both Impalas feature 348 ci V-8s, Powerglide transmissions and the famed Continental package.

Other interesting vehicles of the Danen collection include a ‘62 Impala SS convertible with a 409 ci V-8 under the hood, a ‘60 Pontiac Bonneville hardtop, a ‘59 Ford Thunderbird, and a ‘65 Impala SS convertible, which is described as Danen’s “dream car.” This no-expense-spared vehicle currently features a 502 ci/502 hp engine, Muncie 4-speed transmission, Wilwood disc brakes and the rare factory-correct Evening Orchid paint color. The car has been driven less than 100 miles since its restoration.
