Crane has been around since the 50’s designing, manufacturing and testing a large catalog of cam profiles – boasting an impressive 80,000 profiles! Chances are, they can tell you a thing or two about not only cam selection but either your small- or big-block Chevy.

First off, Crane created a page for the Chevy small-block, which includes tech tips, going as far back as the 1957 V8 all the way back up to today’s modern LS1. Crane does a brief yet informative rundown of the small-block’s progression through the years and design changes as well as camshaft (and just as important valve train) information for each generation of small-block.

Secondly, there’s also a page that’s all about the Chevy big-block. This page is for the big boys that range from the 1958 “W” series (also known as the Mark1) all the way up to today’s 8.1L 496 and everything you could possibly imagine in between. Just like the small-block Chevy page, the big-block page gives plenty of tech info and lots of foot notes about everything as far as generation changes goes such as oiling and bearings and of course, lots of camshaft information.
