Around every high school, there’s a clearly known hotspot where the “cool” people hang out, shoot the breeze, have a smoke or two and maybe imbibe a little contraband on the down low. Where was it at your high school? The woods behind the track, a local burger hangout or perhaps a “grassy knoll”? Possibly, but for most of us, it was the school parking lot, an expanse of tarmac that saw double duty as a loop for the student body’s coolest cars. After stumbling upon this 1969 El Camino for sale on Craigslist, can’t you almost smell the cigarette smoke, Juicy Fruit gum and exhaust fumes wafting through the air?
Located in the state of Maine, this ’69 El Camino would’ve been period perfect for a rumble through said parking lot. Big, black wall tires and stamped steel factory mags are the only indicators that this automotive centaur might be “breathed” on or a sleeper.
This green Elke packs non-original 454 Rat power with aluminum Edlebrock heads, stainless valves, hydraulic roller cam, 850 Holley carb, M21 Muncie 4-speed with Hurst shifter and a 12 bolt rear end with posi and 3.73 gears. Paint is driver quality, but interior is new and the trucklet now has four wheel disc brakes and updated steering box.
This old El Camino would make a great driver and if it were us, we’d just leave it as is and enjoy the car. Maybe after a Costco run, a trip back to the old stomping grounds to show the car off one more time might be in order.
Is it worth the current asking price of $22,500? You be the judge.
