If you’re anything like the employees of powerTV, you get nostalgic over old car advertisements. You scour through Google Images, message forums, old magazines, and just about anything you can get your hands on just to see them. It’s an addiction, we know.
So as a late Christmas present to all of our faithful readers, we dug this 43-year old publicity shot of the five sport coupes that Chevrolet offered for the 1969 model year; which include the Impala, Nova, Chevelle, Camaro, and of course, the Corvette traveling together on a banked curve. All of which, apart from the Corvette obviously, are of the Super Sport caliber. The Camaro is also rocking the Rally Sport option as a bonus.
With a punch line of “No More Mr. Nice Guy,” we think it’s aptly stated. Whether or not this is on a racing circuit or at the GM Proving Grounds is beyond our knowledge, but we dig it regardless. We’re sure you will as well.
This year, only elapsed by 1970, would mark a stellar – if not watermark – year for Chevrolet, particularly in the way of high horsepower performance. More rip snortin’ big blockers were available in more cars than any prior production model year. Whether it was a 396 or one of the available 427 configurations, all of the various platforms could be had with a whole lot of tire smokin’ potency. If anything, this ad’s claim of “No More Mr. Nice Guy” couldn’t have put too fine a point on it.
