With the end of the production cycle for the Ford Raptor, the market for a purpose-built off road truck straight from the factory is wide open. It was only a matter of time before someone stepped up to the preverbal off road plate, and that time could be now. With the release of the 2015 Chevrolet Colorado, and vehicles just now hitting dealerships, Chevy decided to up the ante and give something the off road market wants.

Unveiled today at the LA Auto Show, could be Chevy’s answer to the void created by the absence of the Ford Raptor, the Colorado ZR2 – there’s only one problem, it’s still just a concept truck. Chevy decided to unveil the truck today to gauge the interest of the market and if there is enough interest, they will consider producing it!

Featuring a track width that’s four-inches wider than stock, King remote-reservoir shocks, 275/65R18 off road tires, locking front and rear differentials, and a winch, this truck appears to be ready for some fun. Powered by a 2.8-liter Duramax diesel with 181 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque, power is put to the ground with a six-speed automatic transmission. The ZR2 also carries with it an appearance package of wider fenders, upgraded hood, and key body lines that will make this Colorado stand out from the rest.

Since this is just a concept for now and Chevy is using it to gauge the public’s interest, make some noise and help spread the word of this truck! The off road market needs more trucks like this and while we would have changed a few styling cues (cough, cough, 18-inch wheels), this truck looks like it will make one hell of a cool off roader.
