For well over a year, GM has been teasing us with hints and spy shots about the upcoming Chevrolet Camaro convertible. It wasn’t until the L.A. Auto Show that GM finally took the wraps off of the convertible Camaro, though we got to see the convertible on the limited-edition Neiman Marcus Edition Camaro.
Now finally, GM has seen fit to put the Camaro convertible configurator online, giving us a chance to play around with different versions of the bowtie-wearing muscle car.
As GM has already informed us, the convertible option is available on both the LT and SS versions, giving you a choice between the 312 horsepower V6 or 425 horsepower V8. The base 1LT model starts at $29,150, while a 1SS convertible starts at $36,650. A hefty chunk of change to be sure, but it can cost much, much more than that depending on how many option boxes you check off. We were able to get our Inferno Orange 2SS Convertible to just a tick under $51,000, which includes the 21-inch black wheels, RS and stripe packages, and pretty much everything else GM can include.
Of course, with the Z/28 Camaro coming out in just a few months, some people may want to save their money and wait for the Camaro Maximus to hit showrooms. GM hasn’t mentioned if there will be a convertible version of the Z/28 (but we don’t see why not). Sound off; have you been waiting for a Camaro convertible, or will you hold off until the Z/28 comes out?
