Callaway Cars just unveiled its latest offering based off the sixth-gen Camaro SS – the 2016 Callaway Camaro SC610. It was unveiled on February 18th, 2016 at a private reception in Santa Ana, California held specifically for media and enthusiast VIP members.
Why is it called the SC610? Well, for starters, this new Camaro puts out 610 horsepower. Callaway has added a few other goodies to the latest Camaro platform, such as the patented GenThree supercharger that was first developed for the Callaway Corvette SC757, a car that was designed from a blank sheet of paper. They were able to adapt this supercharger system to the new Camaro to produce a car that is perfect for the performance junkie but also offers reliability.
“We’re very proud of 2016 Callaway Camaro SC610, which is our latest offering,” said Reeves Callaway, founder of Callaway Cars. “For forty years, we’ve earned our reputation through our engineering and competition prowess. We’ve worked for the world’s premier sports car manufacturers, so it shouldn’t be a surprise that the new Callaway Camaro is very powerful and such a joy to drive. We designed this package for enthusiasts who want race car performance with perfect daily drivability.”
The GenThree TVS2300 Supercharger system’s 2300cc Eaton TVS rotor pack forces air upward into the supercharger housing, and the heat that normally robs power is controlled and cooled via convective cooling as it flows up into the supercharger housing. With the housing extended through the hood, it is exposed to ambient temperatures and helps keep the engine and supercharger cool. It also features a TripleCooled™ intercooler system with one main and two additional intercooler elements which conducts heat from the charge air resulting in consistent power. Callaway says it’s perfect for continuous runs on the drag strip as well as lapping the road course time and time again.
To further improve the performance of the Callaway Camaro SC610, a Callaway air inlet system has been added. Also included in the package are carbon fiber engine mid covers, under-hood build plaque complete with VIN number, badging on the interior and exterior, door sill panels, and last but not least, embroidered floor mats. Every SC610 comes with documentation of authenticity.
These cars come available in your choice of either automatic or manual, as well as coupe or convertible, and can be purchased through authorized Callway dealers, and Callaway factory sales personnel can assist you through the purchasing process. MRSP starts at $54,290 which includes the price of a base Camaro SS, or the Callaway Camaro SC610 can be added as an option on an existing car for $16,995.
The car is emissions legal in all 50 states and comes with a standard 3 year/36,000 mile Limited Warranty. An optional 5 year/60,000 Limited Powertrain Service Contract is also available and concurrent with the GM powertrain warranty. These special models are sold through selected GM dealerships and are built on demand with retail financing and warranty coverage. Technicians at Callaway assemble these cars to precise engineering specifications exclusively at Callaway facilities.
No word yet on when we might behind the wheel of a Callaway Camaro, but we’re keeping our fingers crossed that the opportunity presents itself later this spring.
